The Department of Anaesthesiology & Critical Care, KSHEMA successfully completed of 17th PGEXCEL 2021 on 13th and 14th February 2021 in association with ISA Mangaluru Branch under the banner of ISA Karnataka. This annual programme is aimed at the preparation of exam going Anaesthesiology postgraduate and is an important event in the calendar of ISA.
With the ongoing pandemic, this event had to be conducted online and the humongous task was handed to us. We went into action and had an all-time high of 711 registrations from postgraduates of all corners of India. As this was a virtual meeting. The speciality of this PGEXCEL 2021 were, a NITTE PG Debate in which the postgraduates debated on contentious topics in anaesthesia and 7 Master Classes spread over 3 days from 6 to 9pm, on various topics covering the viva in Anaesthesiology.
NITTE PG Debate was introduced for the first time in PGEXCEL 2021, after the resounding success observed in our department as a part of the curriculum. We had around 30 registrants of which, 6 were selected for the finals. The first place in debate went to, Dr. Paccha Priya from Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences, Bellary and second place was bagged by Dr. Sukanya Sampath from Bangaluru Medical College and Research Institution, Bangaluru. They won cash price and meritorious certificate for their excellent performances. The idea for Master Classes on various topic in anaesthesia came up as a plan to provide opportunity to all the postgraduates after regular work hours and provide them a platform to discuss. There were 10 registrants in each Master class and the rest of the registrants viewed and raised questions in the YouTube. The 7 classes took almost 11 hours and was attended with minimum of 250 at any time frame in the YouTube link. We are very exalted with the success of both the concepts of PG Debate and the Master classes.
